When I was 17 years old, I was a senior in High School, living in Detroit MI, working at Demo clothing store inside Eastland mall.
I figured by working in the mall I’ll have a social life, get paid and hopefully win “Best Dressed”. Can you believe I wasn’t even nominated for that? Instead I was nominated for class physique and of course I won!
Surprising or nah? Lol!
Everyday I wore earrings that had stars on them.
You couldn’t tell me NOTHING!
Every Monday I wore heels it didn’t matter if it rained or snowed, I didn’t care. I recall going through the revolving doors at my vocational school and all the teachers would laugh and say “only you would wear heels, in this weather.” I would innocently say “it’s grown women day.”
I took Culinary Arts in the am and went to my main classes at noon.
I argued everyday with the Chefs and got marked down 5pts because I refused to take my nails off but they eventually let me wear gloves.
On my way to school in the am I listened to Keisha Cole, Nivea, Lil Jon, Jay-Z, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne. I graduated with a 4.0 gpa with an overall G.P.A of 3.400.
After graduation I went to a Summer program at WSU, which allowed us to stay on campus and take college courses before the Fall. I moved out on my own & was able to finally live as an independent woman, at the age of 17.
My first hosting gig was on “7 mile to Belle Isle” on Video Vibe Segment. It took place at the Zoobar and played on channel 72 at Midnight and then at 2am.
